"Palo Pinto" means painted posts or trees. Native Americans painted tree trunks red and blue along the banks of North Fork of Palo Pinto Creek near Strawn and some think that is how the county gets its name.

Palo Pinto County Time Capsule

The littlest schoolhouse in Texas.
Built in 1937, its highest enrollment was 12 students, by 1943 only two were enrolled.

The town of Graford is located between the towns of Graham and Weatherford and thus derives its name from the combination of those names.

The Hexagon Hotel built in 1895 and opened in 1897 was the first building in Mineral Wells to have electric lighting. Its unique shape improved ventilation, an important accomplishment in the days before air-conditioning.
 


Crazy Water from Mineral Wells cured a woman suffering from dementia.

 

The "Welcome" sign in Mineral Wells in 1929 served as the inspiration for the landmark sign of "Hollywood" in Los Angeles.

The Baker Hotel opened in November 1929 and it was the second hotel in the country to have a swimming pool.

The Crazy Hotel boasts a ghost of a little girl in an old-fashioned pink frilly dress. Numerous employees have seen her watching them while they work.

The first jail in Mineral Wells was burned down by visiting cowboys during their over-enthusiastic Fourth of July celebrations.
